Microblading.
What is microblading?
-Microblading is the process of implanting color pigment beneath the surface of the skin by means of a small, sterile, disposable needle mimicking natural hair strokes to produce the appearance of fuller eyebrows or enhance the natural features of the face.
How long does microblading last?
-The treatment is considered semi-permanent and will not wash off. However, it will fade over time and will need a follow up appointment every 1-2 years. Frequency of follow ups depend on a number of factors including: the pigment color used (lighter colors fade faster), lifestyle (sun exposure, sweat), iron deficiency (your body absorbs iron-oxide as a supplement), and if any strong skincare products or chemical peels come into contact with the tattooed areas. Please note the final results cannot be guaranteed as each skin type will hold pigments differently and break down at different rates. The tattooed hair strokes tend to have a more crisp look once healed on dry skin, compared to more blurry looking strokes on oily skin. I will examine how your skin has retained the pigment at your follow up appointment and make any changes necessary.
Why should I schedule a follow up appointment?
-Follow ups are normal for cosmetic tattoo procedures, which allows me to build up the brows over two sessions for greater results. The initial procedure is generally followed by a touch up appointment 6 weeks.
Is the follow up appointment included?
-No, the follow up appointment is a separate cost. And although it is highly recommended for best results, not every client needs a follow up, and some clients need it at a later time than others. Sometimes a third appointment is necessary if there is little or no natural brow hair present.
-Follow up appointment: 1-2 hours
How long should I plan for my appointment?
-New client appointment: 2-2 1/2 hours
-Follow up appointment: 1-2 hours
Does microblading hurt?
-To keep it as pain-free as possible I use a maximum strength topical numbing cream before the procedure, as well as numbing gel that is safe for broken skin during the procedure. Although pain varies from person to person, most clients experience little to no pain during the procedure.
How many treatments are needed?
-Two treatments are usually necessary, at least 6 weeks apart. Sometimes just one treatment is sufficient. Follow up appointments are offered at a lower cost than the initial appointment. With most procedures, the color looks dramatically lighter after the first week. Some clients prefer this, while others opt for a bolder look. At the second appointment, I will access the color retention and make adjustments as necessary. Everyone heals differently for the first time, do not worry! We can always go darker and/or add more density at your second appointment.
How will I look immediately after? What is the healing process?
-Your semi-permanent makeup may appear larger (due to swelling) and darker than expected for the first few days. This will gradually lighten during the healing process, then return to a color slightly lighter than the initial color the day they were done. For the healing process please view the detailed aftercare tab.
When can I get botox/fillers?
-You may get botox or fillers no less than 4 weeks prior to your appointment or 4 weeks after your appointment.
When can I get my eyebrows tinted and/or laminated?
-You must wait at least 6 weeks after your microblading appointment to ensure they are healed before applying dye or laminating chemical to the tattooed area.
Can I have microblading done if I have allergies?
-If you have allergies to products or ingredients, please contact me before booking to address any allergens and determine whether we may safely carry out the procedure.
Can I get microblading if I have a history of keloid scarring?
-Unfortunately, no I do not risk microblading skin that has a history of keloid scarring.
Can I get my eyebrows microbladed if they were previously tattooed?
-Clients with previously tattooed brows must contact me before booking so that I can access the current state of your brows (either in person or via a clear photo of your clean brows) to determine whether or not I can provide you service. I only work on heavily faded previous work to be able to achieve optimal results.
Can I exercise after getting microblading?
-You must avoid heavy excise for 5-7 days following your cosmetic tattoo appointment. Light exercise is fine (minimal sweating), but you MUST clean the tattooed area with lukewarm water as soon as you are finished exercising. The sweating during the healing phase may prematurely fade the pigment and give poor results.
Can I get microblading if I am on antibiotics?
-You must be off antibiotics for at least 2 weeks prior to your appointment. If you come to be on antibiotics before your appointment, please contact me so we may reschedule.
Can I get microblading done if I am currently doing chemotherapy?
-You must be cleared by your doctor if you wish to get tattooed prior to starting chemotherapy, or wait till you have finished all treatments.
Can I get microblading if I am pregnant or nursing?
-As a precaution to avoid any complications, I do not perform cosmetic tattooing on pregnant or nursing women.
Can I get microblading if I am use Accutane or similar acne medication?
-No, you must be off Accutane or any similar medications for at least 12 months.
Can I get microblading if I use Retinoids?
-You must stop using any products with retinoids 2 weeks prior to your appointment and avoid using it for the first 2 weeks following your appointment.
Can I get microblading if I have an iron deficiency?
-Yes, but you must be taking iron supplements for 6 weeks prior to your appointment as well as the first 6 weeks following your appointment.
Can I get microblading if I am diabetic?
-Typically, yes. Clients who are diabetic can heal well and have great results. However, if you generally do not heal well, especially on the face, microblading is not a good option for you. If you are concerned about whether or not you should have cosmetic tattooing always consult your physician before booking an appointment.
Can I get microblading if I have an autoimmune disorder?
-No, most clients with autoimmune disorders are not good candidates for microblading as the pigment is often rejected, leaving poor results.
How old do I have to be to get microblading?
-You must be at least 18 years old to get any cosmetic tattoo service in the state of California. Parental consent is not accepted.
Facials.
What product line do your use for facials?
-Nearly all the products I use are Bioelements Professional products.
Can I get a facial if I have sensitive skin or allergies to ingredients?
-I do have products specifically formulated for sensitive skin. If you have concerns you may contact me prior to booking your facial to address any allergens or known irritants that you may have.
What does a facial consist of?
-Each facial is custom blended to target each clients specific needs. The signature facials I offer do have a general outline of products used to reach a desired outcome, but even those facials include portions where products are selected based off the clients skin type. Generally, the facials I provide include a steam cleanse, application of toner, exfoliation, skin sedation, hand, arm and facial massage, a targeted mask, serums, moisturizer, and application of SPF. Some of the facials have optional add-on’s for an additional fee.
Do I have to remove my clothes for a facial?
-Typically, yes, clients disrobe and wear a wrap-style smock which I provide. During your facial your body will be also covered with a sheet or blanket while laying on the treatment bed. If you prefer to not disrobe I recommend wearing a wide neck, thinly strapped, or strapless top for décolleté masking and massage.
What if I have a reaction to the products used?
-While avoiding any type of negative reaction is always the goal, it is possible for a client to have a reaction to products being used. To avoid such reactions, protocols are set in place to both avoid and treat possible reactions. At the start to every appointment clients are asked of any known allergens or irritants to avoid contact with such ingredients. However sometimes clients may have a reaction without knowing they have sensitivities- in such cases where irritation or a reaction occurs during the treatment the product is promptly removed and the skin is sedated.
Dermaplaning.
What is Dermaplaning?
-Dermaplaning is the removal of dead skin cells and vellus hair using a single use scalpel to leave skin looking brighter and softer.
How often do I need to have dermaplaning done?
-As frequent as you feel necessary, but generally no less than 2 weeks after a previous appointment. Dermaplaning does not require continued use, however over time the hair will grow back.
Will my facial hair grow back thicker or darker?
-No- Dermaplaning does not affect the color or coarseness of the hair as it is sheared off at the surface of the skin, leaving the hair follicle undamaged or changed in any way. You may notice that as the hair grows back it looks “sharper” on the end which is now visible from your hairs natural growth- but the hair will grow back the same color and coarseness as it was before.
How long does Dermaplaning take?
-Generally, the planing process itself takes about 20 minutes or so.
Can’t I just do this myself at home?
-People who have access to purchasing “at-home dermaplaners” or scalpels may certainly attempt to do this procedure at home, but more often than not more damage could potentially be done to the skin using improper technique and tools unsuitable for Dermaplaning. I generally recommend just leaving dermaplaning to the professionals. The closest procedure that can be done safely from home by an untrained individual is to shave the face using a regular shaving razor to remove unwanted facial hair.
Who cannot have Dermaplaing performed?
Anyone whom has/is:
-Currently using Accutane (must wait 12 months after discontinuing use), Currently treating cancer with radiation or chemotherapy, Taking blood thinners or any medication which causes thinning of the skin, Had waxing or threading done within the last 7 days, Had cosmetic injections of filler or botox within the past 2 weeks, Using a topical retinoid (such as Tretinoin, Retin-A, Renova, Differin, EpiDuo, etc), high-percentage AHA or BHA products within the past 7 days.
Consult a physician before discontinuing any medications prior to your appointment.
Microdermabrasion.
What is microdermabrasion?
-Microdermabrasion is an exfoliating process in which a handheld device is used to remove dead cell buildup from the top layer of skin. The procedure itself usually takes about 15 minutes and is accompanied by soothing facial; all together the appointment may take around 75 minutes.
What are the benefits of microdermabrasion?
-Microdermabrasion addresses several skin concerns including dull complexion, enlarged pores, uneven skin tone and texture, age spots, dark spots that may form after a blemish, sun damage, acne scarring or scarring in general, and fine lines and wrinkles.
Can I get microdermabrasion if I have acne?
-You may have microdermabrasion done so long as you have very few isolated surface pimples. If you have inflamed acne or acne all over the face, microdermabrasion is not possible until the breakout has cleared.
Can I get microdermabrasion if I have Rosacea?
-It is not recommended to perform microdermabrasion over any areas affected by rosacea or that a topical treatment to treat rosacea is applied.
Can I get microdermabrasion if I have a history of keloid scarring?
-It is not recommended to perform microdermabrasion on skin that is prone to keloid scarring.
Can I get microdermabrasion done if I use Accutane?
-No, you cannot have microdermabrasion done if you have used Accutane or any similar topical acne medication within the past 12 months.
I have Eczema, can I have Microdermabrasion?
-No, you cannot have microdermabrasion done in the area of an eczema flare up or anywhere a topical medication has been applied to treat eczema.
Are microdermabrasion sessions available if I am pregnant?
-As a precaution to avoid any possible complications, I do not perform microdermabrasion on pregnant women.
I use products with glycolic acid/AHA/retinoids, is it safe to have microdermabrasion done?
-You must wait at least 2 weeks after using any acidic or retinoid products and at least 6 weeks after getting any kind of chemical peel to have microdermabrasion done.
When can I wear makeup again after my microdermabrasion session?
-After your microdermabrasion appointment you may resume wearing makeup after 24 hours.
Microdermabrasion with Chemical Exfoliation is an option, how do I know if that is right for me?
-Chemical Exfoliation is an optional add-on when scheduling a microdermabrasion appointment, however, that is the most invasive, deepest penetrating service I currently offer and is NOT RECOMMENDED for first time clients or clients who have not previously had a chemical peel appointment with me. I always recommend starting at the lowest level when it comes to chemical exfoliation. In doing so we can test the hardiness of your skin and see whether such a deep penetration is necessary. While both microdermabrasion and chemical peels are excellent treatments, the combination of the two is not always recommended for every client. If you have previously had chemical exfoliation appointments with me or have had a long history of getting chemical peel treatments and your skin responds well to such, and are looking for better penetration and enhanced results only then do I recommend scheduling microdermabrasion with the chemical exfoliation add-on.
Chemical Exfoliation.
What is a chemical exfoliation?
-Chemical exfoliation is a portion of a facial in which an exfoliating acid solution that is naturally derived and gentle on the skin is applied. These acids are ultimately designed to enhance the skin’s appearance. The exfoliation process works to remove dead skin cells and infuse active ingredients, which can brighten and smooth your complexion, reducing visible signs of aging. It can help minimize the appearance of pores and wrinkles, improve uneven skin tone and reduce dark spots. Chemical peels are non-invasive and you’ll often see early improvements such as tighter feeling skin and a brighter complexion immediately after your treatment.
What kind of peels are offered?
-The types of chemical exfoliants I use are professional grade, naturally derived lactic acid as well as two levels of glycolic acid. Lactic acid is the more mellow, entry-level chemical exfoliant of the two acids I offer, which brightens, smooths, and evens skin making it look firmer. It also helps reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and dark spots. Alternatively, glycolic acid has proven benefits in treating a range of skin conditions such as acne and acne scarring, dark spots, ingrown hairs and scarring, stretch marks, sun damage, and photoaging. Glycolic peels are effective for removing blackheads, whiteheads, and pimples from the skin. They also help to reduce pore size. Consistent repeated use of Glycolic Acid Peels have been shown to be effective for removing cystic lesions and acne scars from skin.
Does chemical exfoliation hurt?
-Chemical exfoliation should never be performed on a person with sensitive skin, however, on normal skin it has been described as feeling tickle-like tingling, or a slight sting. If at any point during the treatment if it becomes uncomfortable- the acid is promptly removed and a neutralizing and calming mask is applied to the skin.
Who are not candidates for a chemical peel?
Anyone whom:
-has used Accutane within the last YEAR (Retinoids must be discontinued 1 week prior), Takes medication for Type 2 Diabetes, Takes aspirin daily for a heart condition, Or takes any medication which causes ANY skin sensitivies, Has an active Herpes outbreak, Is pregnant or breastfeeding, Has an autoimmune disorder, Has sensitive skin, Has a rash of any kind on the treatment area, Has rosacea, Has had facial waxing within the last 72 hours.
What are the possible side effects?
-Side effects include but are not limited to: mild to extreme redness, temporary tightness, itching, swelling, and dryness of the skin similar to a sunburn or windburn. This will usually subside within 1-2 days. Over the counter Hydrocortisone cream may be recommended if the skin is inflamed or irritated. If you regularly get cold sores, a chemical peel can stimulate an outbreak.
What if I don’t know if my skin can handle a chemical peel?
-If you commonly have reactions to skin products, chemical peels probably aren’t for you. If you are just unsure about the heartiness of your skin, you can try an Enzyme Peel first and determine whether deeper exfoliation is possible or needed.
How will I look after?
-The chemical exfoliation options I provide are on the light and medium strength professional grade peels which, however, do not always cause the skin to actually “peel”. Everyone’s skin reacts differently to these treatments. Some may feel a little drier than usual, whereas others may have some mild scaling. Immediately after the procedure the skin may be pink in color where the acid was applied, and is typically gone within a few hours. Mild swelling may occur, if so a cold compress may be applied to the skin.
What is the aftercare?
-After your peel you may go back to gently cleansing twice a day, using toner, moisturizing, and most importantly SPF. Be sure to stay out of the sun as much as possible for the first 2 weeks. Hats and big glasses with SPF are great for keeping the sun off your face when out. Do not use Retinoids, Vitamin C products, Benzoyl Peroxide, or any other exfoliants for 2 weeks after. And most importantly: DO NOT PICK OFF ANY FLAKING SKIN, let it flake off naturally. *Picking skin off may cause scarring.*
Microcurrent Facial.
What is a Microcurrent Facial?
-A microcurrent facial is a full facial (cleanse, tone, mask, serums, moisturizer, spf) that involves the use of a handheld tool which uses low-voltage electricity to stimulate the facial muscles, creating a lifting, toning effect on the skin. The treatment is painless and can create both short-term immediate results and with continued treatments long-term results. Microcurrents also stimulate the skin causing an increase in collagen production, which lessens the appearance of fine lines.
What are the benefits of a Microcurrent Facial?
-Creates a lifted and sculpted appearance, Softens fine lines and wrinkles, Stimulates collagen and elastin cells , Balances sebum production (great for acne prone skin), Pain-free, non-invasive, with immediate results
How many sessions do I need?
-Each individual client may need more or less than the next so the amount of sessions to reach the desired result may vary. For best results one treatment per month is recommended for longer lasting and more dramatic results.
I use Accutane, can I get a Microcurrent Facial?
-Unfortunately, you must wait 12 months after discontinuing use of Accutane.
I use a retinoid, can I get a Microcurrent Facial?
-All topical retinoids must be discontinued 2 weeks prior to your Microcurrent Facial.
Microcurrent is electricity, will I get shocked?
-In order to prevent little shocks, all jewelry must be removed prior to your appointment. Otherwise, no, you won’t feel a shocking sensation during the treatment. The wands or gloves will simply glide over the skin with the assistance of a conductive jelly (similar to ultrasound jelly).
Who cannot receive a Microcurrent Facial?
Anyone whom has/is:
-An electrical implant device (such as a pacemaker), Epilepsy or a history of Seizures, Cancer or is undergoing cancer treatment, Pregnant, Heart Conditions, Diabetes, Recent surgery (within the last 6 weeks), Open sores on the face, Metal implants, plates, or pins in the body, Recent filler or botox (within the last 2 weeks), Irremovable jewelry (dermal implant piercings)
I regularly get botox injections- how will that effect my Microcurrent Facial?
-Clients with fresh botox in areas where the facial will be performed will affect the outcome of your session. By nature, Botox debilitates the muscle in which it's injected causing that muscle to be temporarily paralyzed until the botox is broken down in the body, thus opposing the process in which Microcurrent therapy works. During microcurrent treatments, the electrical current travels from the wands through your skin to tighten the facial muscles in a way similar to exercise. So that being said- if you cannot move or flex the muscle due to active botox, microcurrent will be ineffective in those areas. It is best to wait until your botox has worn off to schedule a Microcurrent Facial.
Brow Lamination.
What is Brow Lamination?
-Brow Lamination is a semi-permanent brow treatment using a chemical process to straighten, smooth, reshape, and tame brow hair into any desired shape or style.
How long does it last?
-Brow lamination lasts anywhere from 2-6 weeks. Finer textured hair lasts longer, while more coarse hair is quicker to return to its natural state. Lifestyle and water exposure also play a role in how quickly the hair returns to its natural state. Brows must remain dry for the first 24 hours after your treatment, exposing the freshly treated hairs to moisture during this time greatly reduces the longevity of your service.
What is the aftercare?
-Most importantly, keeping the brows dry for the first 24 hours following your appointment. Avoid hot showers, swimming, and sauna for the first 48 hours. Brush back into place in the mornings if necessary. Conditioning oil in the weeks following lamination may help keep the hair if any dryness occurs.
What will my brows look like after?
-Obviously everyone's brows are different, and we're working with whatever natural hair is present- but generally, brows can be styled to whatever suits you! If you want them to be sleek and evenly distributed, we can do that. If you prefer a fluffier textured brow, that direction can be taken, as well as a mixture of both textured while still looking manicured. The hair will lay flat to the skin and be smooth to the touch.
Does Brow Lamintation hurt?
-While most clients feel no discomfort, it is possible for the chemical process to cause some minor discomfort or redness. If at any point the treatment becomes too uncomfortable the solution is promptly removed and the skin is then neutralized with a soothing solution.
Do I need to tint my brows also if I Laminate them?
-No! You definitely don't have to, but it is a packaged option (Lami + Tint, as well as the Triple Threat Brow treatment). Over time several lamination processes on the hair will cause it to lighten in color. Accompanying your Lamination service with tinting recoups any lost pigment as well as gives a more finished look.
Brow Tinting.
What is brow tinting?
-Brow tinting is an eyebrow enhancement in which a dye is applied to the eyebrow, leaving a stain on both the hair and skin where it is applied.
How long does it last?
-2-4 days on skin, and up to 6 weeks on hair.
What brand tint do you use?
-Bronsun Brow Dye.
How long does it take?
-Generallly, a tint appointment takes less than 30 minutes. If extensive brow mapping is necessary (client has very little natural brow hair or natural shape is vague) some time is spent there. But the tinting process itself takes up to 20 minutes. The longer the tinting dye is applied, the darker the tint will be on the skin and hair. Appointments where a mild or moderate tint is applied take less time to process.
Are there any risks?
-It is possible to have an allergic reaction to the dye, which may cause redness and irritation, rash, swelling, or hives. If you commonly have reactions to dyes it is not recommended to try brow tinting.
How will I look after?
-The boldness of your brow is dependent on how long the dye is left on. During your appointment we will discuss color, shape, and how bold (saturated) you want your brows. The skin beneath the brow where the tint is applied will be stained and have the appearance of powder brow fill makeup. And the brow hair will be tinted to the shade of dye used for up to six weeks. (Which is great for blondes with “invisible” brows.)
Lash Lifts.
What is a Lash Lift?
-Lash Lifting is a semi-permanent treatment on natural eyelashes in which a chemical solution is applied to the lashes with the use of a form that is placed on the eyelid. The solution causes the hair to take the shape of the form, curling upward giving the appearance of longer lashes and more open, awake looking eyes.
How long does it last?
-Lash lifts can last up to 6 weeks. Hair texture, lifestyle, and exposure to moisture play roles in the longevity of your service. Keeping your lashes dry for the first 24 hours is crucial to the longevity of your lash lift.
What is the aftercare?
-Lashes must stay dry for the first 24 hours after your treatment. Avoid swimming, hot showers, saunas and mascara for the first 48 hours. No waterproof mascara. if your use makeup remover, be sure to use an oil-free makeup remover after your lift.
What are the risks?
-While most clients have no reaction, irritation may occur. If you have generally sensitive eyes, lash lifting may not be for you. There is the inherent possibility of accidental contact with the eye. As well as the possibility that the eyelashes may become overprocessed causing damage to the lashes. I, of course, use extra care and attention to avoid any preventable risks.
Who should not get a Lash Lift?
-Anyone whom has: Sensitive eyes, Feels uncomfortable with their eyes being touched or having their eyes closed for extended periods of time, Has irritated or inflamed eyes, infection, or styes.
Will my lashes go back to normal?
-Yes, over the next 2-6 weeks the curl will begin to dissipate. Eyelashes cycle about every 30-40 days so eventually all the lashes that were processed will fall out as they naturally do and be replaced with new ones.
Can you wear makeup and mascara with a Lash Lift?
-Yes, you may wear eyeshadow and liner immediately after, however keep in mimd that the lashes can't be wet for 24 hours after your appointment. It is best to wait 48 hours to wear mascara. And to not use waterproof mascara or any kind of oil-based makeup remover on the lashes.
